May Favorites: Aveda Dry Shampoo

This month we sat down with Northwest Stylist Doza Barcelona to chat it up about Aveda Dry Shampoo! Seriously, who doesn't love Dry Shampoo? Doza definitely does! And here are her thoughts on the new Aveda favorite!

Name: Doza Barcelona

Who are you? A Dosha Master Stylist at Dosha Northwest.

How long have you been in the industry? 10 years- including my year of school. So yeah, 10 years!

Why do you love Aveda? I feel like there are one million possible  answers to that- but it's hair with a clear conscious. I don't have to sacrifice, health or the environment. And it isn't like I have to align myself with Aveda, they actually align with me and with my values. And it doesn't hurt that they are like leaders in the fashion industry either. It is the best of both worlds.

Lets talk about Aveda Dry Shampoo. Seriously, did you get wind that I hate washing my hair or something- this is so perfect for me because I use it everyday. Seriously- I NEVER wash my hair. I love dry shampoo.

That's pretty perfect! So, what is Dry Shampoo? Dry Shampoo is a product that help clients in between washes to have volume and reduce oil. That's the most basic introduction but it can do so much more then that.

What does this product feel and smell like? It is a really fine powder  and it's fantastic because it not going to sit on your hair- like a funky dry residue. It blends in so well to your scalp- which is great for brunettes too so you don't have that white flaky look. And it's aroma is Shampure- which is the best. It is the smell I go to when I go into any Aveda- that and the Brilliant aroma. Shampure is made up of 24 plant and flower aromas- for me I really smell the calming lavender and the yland-ylang. So good!

How do you apply this product? Okay, so the application is awesome because the powder is so fine and it can be in your hair with out being detected- you just poof it in at the root and then sort of rub it in and the powder really just blends in. And if you like me- I have really thin hair- like literally I did the thing where Aveda they take a picture of your scalp and your hair and they were like "congratulations you have one hair!" that is how thin my hair is. So for me, I put it in AFTER I blow dry and it adds so much volume. I use it as a finishing product, I just put it on my roots AND my mids and ends.

Okay- that's a actually a great follow-up question- how the heck do you "poof" it and get it out? Oh that is a good question. So you really just hold the product, the entire bottle upside down so the top canister fills up with product (make sure it is closed when you do this so product doesn't fall out). But then  you just lift up your hair and poof it in there. And you don't want to be too close- a little distance is good.

What Hair type is it good for? Really any hair type. especially anyone looking for more volume and to get you in-between washes. But if for example, you have really thick course hair and  you are afraid of too much poofy hair then just do your roots. But if you like big hair then go for it.

Any Pro-Tips for using? I would say using it as a finishing product not just as an in-between wash product. And I finish all my fine haired guests with it. So I prep the hair as normal and blow-dry and then put in the Dry Shampoo. Because the powder is so fine- it's not going to give you that "George Washington" powdered wig look- it is really just going to blend right in but give you major volume.

So the promo this month is buy any product at  least $25 (or more) and get the Aveda Dry Shampoo for just $10- which is a crazy awesome deal- what product would you pair with it? I would pair it with the Brilliant spray-on shine actually. It is kind of the perfect pair. Because the Dry Shampoo will give you the volume but it can be a little matte- which is cool look too if that's what your going for. But if you add in the shine spray and maybe a few curls then you have a really trendy sort of lived in but still polished look.

Any fun Dry Shampoo Facts we should know? Any facts, well the one about the Shampure aroma is pretty good...Oh no actually I do have another fun fact. It is non-aerosol product. That's a good one, people need to know that! Because what that means is your not going to get those little globs of product- that look like wet patches. And don't get me wrong I have been using dry shampoo for years, all kinds, but the fact that this isn't an aerosol makes it so the product just blends in- you cant event tell it is on. Just squeeze a little or a lot if you want more volume.
