Lash Obsess with Us!

Image of a woman washing her eye lashes and getting lashes services. What is right for you?

Skincare isn’t just for your face; lashes need love too! Choosing the right skincare routine is important, so how do you choose Lash Lift or Borboleta Lash Extensions? We asked our Dosha Lead Esthetician, Stephanie Wilson, ALL ABOUT LASHES. Keep reading to learn everything you NEED to know to get your dream lashes and what is right for you.

What is a Lash Lift?

A Lash Lift is a “process that chemically alters the shape of the lashes. Allowing for them to have a tighter curl, thus lifting them up”. And the best part, with a Lash Lift “you can use mascara and makeup”. Even “eye creams and moisturizer are okay to use. No worries about compromising the lashes”.

Only a licensed Esthetician can offer this service and it takes about 1 hour to complete the service. You can go about 4-6 weeks between visits to allow “the permed, curly lashes complete their life cycle, die and fall out. The new "straight" lashes grow in their place. It is a subtle process that unlike lash extension fills, looks natural”, says our lash expert, Stephanie Wilson.

What are lash extensions?

Lash Extensions are different from a Lash Lifts. Extensions are “individual, longer, and more curly lashes that are applied to each individual lash”.  if you’re looking for volume and glam, lash extensions might be right for you.

When it comes to makeup, Estheticians generally steer you away from wearing makeup or mascara. Our Lead Esthetician, Stephanie Wilson said that “the ingredients in eyeliner and mascara will break down the adhesive that bonds the lash extension to the lash itself, so it is best to stay away from mascaras and creams". You can wear lash extension friendly makeup that is oil free, however, our Lead Esthetician advises that anything “creamy, waxy, or oily is typically bad for the lash glue”, so it is important to keep that in mind and speak with your Esthetician regarding makeup. If you decide that you cannot live without makeup, make sure to get oil free makeup and keep the eye clear of anything that might breakdown the lash glue.

When it comes to lash health, it is “imperative that the lashes be shampooed or cleansed regularly to prevent infection or mites”. When getting Lash extensions, be sure to have a plan in place to regularly clean your lashes so that you can keep them in good health between visits.

Please keep in mind that only a licensed Esthetician can offer this service and it takes about 2 hours to get a full set of lash extensions. Our Lead Esthetician, Stephanie Wilson, recommends fills every 2 weeks. “Much like getting the nails done, if one waits too long between fills it looks pretty blatant and gaps in the lash line will be present”, so it is important to book your appointment with a Dosha Esthetician ahead of time.
