Behind the Curtain: OBT's Juliette Ochoa

At Dosha Salon Spa, we’re proud to be the official beauty sponsor of Oregon Ballet Theatre, offering dancers the pampering they deserve after countless hours of hard work. This season, we welcomed OBT company artist Juliette Ochoa into the salon for a gorgeous hair refresh. Join us as we step Behind the Curtain to explore Juliette’s connection to Giselle, her love of performance, and how her blonde transformation has her feeling beautiful and confident on and off stage.

Why is Giselle so special?

"Giselle is a purely classical ballet, the choreography is very logical where each step has a beginning, middle, and end just like how we train in ballet class.

Working under choreographers Tiit Helimets and Dani Rowe has been an inspiring experience for Juliette. “They are incredibly detail-oriented, ensuring every movement is intentional even down to where our eyes should follow during our port de bras (arm movements) so the lines look their most pure".

What was it like being on the posters and all the promotional materials for this show?

"It was amazing! I can see why Giselle is a dream role for many ballerinas. It’s so rich technically and emotionally. You really have to be an actress and convey deep emotions like love, heartbreak and fear and even face death".

What is it like to perform on stage?

"Being on stage is the best feeling ever. It’s nerve-wracking but so incredibly worth it. When I watch other dancers, I feel as though they’re dancing just for me, and I hope to give our audience that same connection".

What do you love to do when you’re not dancing?

"When I’m not in the studio, I love shopping or hanging out with friends. Some of my favorite spots are right here near Dosha Hawthorne. I love Sloan Boutique and my favorite restaurant is Khao Moo Dang".

Tell us about your hair refresh at Dosha Salon Spa.

"I’ve wanted to be blonde my whole life, and I finally went for it. My stylist, Kristina Paris, did an incredible job. She blended the color so seamlessly and chose a shade that complements my skin tone perfectly".

Describe your personal style.

"For everyday life, I’m pretty casual and comfortable. But when I’m going out with friends, I love skirts and dresses. Moving to Portland has added a bit of grunge to my style, I’m all about boots with buckles. It’s a fun mix of feminine and edgy, with a little Western vibe thrown in!"
