Take the Journey - Embrace your curls!

In honor of the new Be Curly product line, I am going natural taking a full curl journey for three weeks. I am going to give it time for the curls to relax and let my curls come to life. It has been a long time since I wore it naturally because I usually wear my hair round brush or curled and I’ve never given myself the full curl experience! I’ve taught my clients but never done the FULL thing myself so I was curious.

Biggest tools on my journey  Image of lauren yauney's IG post

The full *Be Curly™ Advanced* line, silk bonnet, large silk scrunchy and diffuser. I also use a long-sleeved terry cloth t-shirt to dry my hair. A continuous spray water bottle. And finally, Aveda travel brush or wet brush.

My Routine

  • 1x per week full wash and condition
  • 1 x per week co-wash and masque or condition (mid-week)
  • Immediately out of shower BARELY ring out extra moisture (you want your hair still drippy)
  • Apply Curl Primer by spraying thoroughly throughout your hair. Make sure to get it everywhere
  • Apply Curl Enhancer. Again, we want this everywhere. For my hair, I start with a quarter-sized amount and add more if it’s not everywhere. Without thorough coverage, you won’t have enough frizz control.
  • Apply Coil Gel. This can be substituted with NP Curl Gelée but I much prefer the new gel.
  • At this point, I brushed the product through to ensure I didn’t miss anything
  • Scrunch, or separate and perfect curls and finish with the preferred drying method

After trying ALL the drying methods, I found that I prefer to “plop” to remove excess moisture (after my products are on.) Then, I scrunch my hair, flip it onto a long-sleeve T-shirt, and fold it over, using the arms to tie it in place. I let this sit for 20-30 minutes then diffuse.

At night, I recommend sleeping with a silk bonnet to help reduce frizz. First, I loosely wrap it in a silk scrunchie to keep the length up. For refresh days, when I’m not washing, I use my continuous spray water bottle to spray the whole thing, then I scrunch and leave or scrunch and lightly diffuse. For those seeking MAX volume like me, I also spray a bit of pure abundance style prep over the top of my hair on refresh day. The Pure Abundance™ is light and helps to keep up the volume.

How it’s going?

"My hair is more full. My curls are more CONSISTENT. And my routine is way faster!  It’s easier now to go curly than it’s ever been! Even my waves have turned to elongated curls instead of just waves. My bangs used to be the bane of my curl existence, and now I can honestly say they behave and are cute!"
