Kim Botner: Imprinted — Creative Innovation on a Global Stage
Dosha Creative Director • Aveda Congress 2025 • International Recognition

For over 22 years, Dosha Creative Director Kim Botner has grown her career from the Dosha home—becoming a nationally and internationally recognized artist, educator, and creative leader. In August 2025, Kim brought that vision to the global main stage at Aveda Congress, debuting an original technique that would later earn her recognition as a Finalist for the 2025 Trevor Sorbie Award for Creative Innovation in Hair.

Where Hair Becomes Fabric
Inspired by Tataki Zome, a Japanese botanical dyeing practice, Kim explored how real flower petals could transfer pigment onto pre-lightened hair—much like dyeing cloth. Using pressure instead of heat, she allowed natural pigments to imprint organically onto the hair, guided by pH, environment, and intuition.
“Each piece became impressionistic—soft, painterly, and alive. No two prints were ever the same.”
The result was not uniform, but impressionistic—soft, painterly, and alive. Each piece became its own expression of movement and nature. These images became Kim’s official submission for international award recognition.
Inside the Process: Imprinted in Kim’s Own Words
Go deeper into the creative exploration behind Imprinted. In this video, Kim walks through her inspiration, botanical pigment techniques, and how treating hair as “fabric” reshaped her artistic approach.
Global Recognition, Rooted in Education
In 2025, Kim’s work earned multiple honors, including:
- Hairstylist of the Year — American Beauty Vision Awards
- Finalist, Creative Innovation — Trevor Sorbie Awards
- Finalist, Avant Garde — Live Fashion Hair Americas (note: look on kims IG and dropbox and crop)
While awards mark milestones, Kim’s true focus remains education.
“Education feeds innovation. When we slow down and study nature, we create work that’s meaningful.”
We are proud to support artists who lead with intention, curiosity, and integrity. Kim Botner’s work reflects what’s possible when education and creativity evolve together and a glimpse of where the future of hair artistry is headed.
