Behind the Curtain: OBT's Lauren Flower

As part of our beauty sponsorship of Oregon Ballet Theatre, the Dosha Creative Team had the privilege of welcoming OBT dancer Lauren Flower into the salon for a rejuvenating experience. Get to know Lauren as we step Behind the Curtain to explore her artistic journey, love for choreography, and what inspires her both on and off the stage:

Did you always know you wanted to be a dancer?

I did! As a kiddo I was always dancing around the kitchen making up dances. I’ve had this professional vision from a very young age. I always knew this was something I wanted to focus on.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I do have some superstitions... nothing wild. When I’m in the wings, I have to do heel taps with my hands a certain amount of times before going on stage. Sometimes, I’ll look into the stage lights and say a little something to calm me down. Grounding myself is very important.

How do you unwind outside of rehearsals?

It’s important for me to spend time for myself relaxing, playing my guitar, finding a good book. I still dive into my art too; I love to choreograph.

Relaxation is one of our goals at Dosha. How was your experience?

I love the tea! It was very relaxing and calming just like the space at Dosha. It feels nice to sit back in the chair, take a deep breath and relax.

What are some of your favorite spots in Portland?

I love listening to records at Music Millennium, I could spend quite a while in there going through vinyl. Dear Sandy is a coffee shop I love to take a book to and just relax.

How do you describe your personal style?

Androgenous, chic. Thats it!

Tell us more about your passion for choreography?

I have a love for choreography. At OBT I’ve had some amazing opportunities already... I have a premier of mine in June which will be the first time this piece is being put onstage professionally at the Newmark Theatre.
